Developing Diagnostic Criteria for Cerebral Arteriolosclerosis

Overview

Cerebral arteriolosclerosis is a common small-vessel pathology, but consistent criteria for identifying and characterizing it across clinical and research settings remain limited. This project aims to develop diagnostic criteria for arteriolosclerosis by integrating neuropathology, neuroimaging, and clinical data.

Current focus

• Characterizing arteriolosclerosis using evidence from neuropathology reports and tissue-based assessment.
• Identifying corresponding MRI features and patterns of cerebral small-vessel disease.
• Evaluating relevant clinical and vascular-risk information.
• Building a transparent, reproducible framework for future validation in independent cohorts.

Goal

The long-term goal is to improve the consistent identification of cerebral arteriolosclerosis and support research on its contribution to cognitive impairment, stroke, and mixed age-related brain pathologies.
